Hereby we send you three pictures of a tri-tone patinated bronze statuette. The statuette is unsigned but we have reasons to believe that it could be after James Pradier. Can you give us any information about the statuette and/or the artist. We want to thank you very much in advance.

Please excuse this long delay, due to technical problems with my new website. Your Reclining Lady is a very beautiful work but unfortunately I am unable to identify the sculptor. Can you tell me why you believe it may be after James Pradier? Although the pose vaguely recalls his 1837 statuette of Louise Colet en Penserosa (cat. Claude Lapaire n° 114), this is certainly a much later work, possibly executed by one of his students or imitators during the second half of the 19th century.

We hereby send you a photograph of a painting by Jean-Marc Nattier at the famous Chateau de Versailles. This lady is Madame Henriette (1727-1753) and she looks very much like the lady of the bronze statuette we sent you before. We still do not know who the sculptor is but we keep searching. Thanks again for your reaction.

It does seem likely that your bronze figure was inspired by Nattier's portrait of Henriette de France as Flora. The pose is very much the same and, like her, she is gathering flowers with her right hand to weave the wreath held in her left hand. However, the sculptor has depicted a contemprary, 19th-century model whose features and coiffure are quite different from those of the 18th-century princess.
